Chris Randall, Director

Second Home Studios is an animation studio based in Birmingham. It is the workplace of BAFTA Nominated Animation Director/Producer Chris Randall who oversees all the creative projects that pass through its doors. Specialising in all forms of animation with a reputation for imaginative stop-motion, his creative approach to every project is to combine hand-wrought experimentation with high-end execution whether the images are hand-drawn, digitally forged or captured in-camera with models and puppets. Consequently, his repertoire of work encompasses both artistic and commercial commissions including: film production, online campaigns, music videos, TV commercials, title sequences, broadcast promotions, idents, theatrical projection design and puppetry.

Before residing semi-permanently in the Digbeth studios, Chris spent four years working exclusively as a designer and stop-motion animator, producing award-winning idents, promotions and interstitials for CITV. Prior to that he was grounding himself in visual effects as a clapper loader and motion control assistant which helped to discipline him behind the camera. Earlier still, he worked as an assistant modelmaker and unit assistant in visual effects. Prior to that he worked as a stage-hand, giving him an insight and parallel interest in theatre and puppetry, both of which inform his work as a projection designer for theatre.

Before all that he was an animator, but just didn’t know it at the time.
