Branding Refresh for Da-Vinci Learning Wins British Animation Award.

In March 2020, we attended the British Animation Awards and were among the winners for our work for German educational channel Da Vinci Learning, in the ‘Best Film and TV Motion Design’ category.

Da Vinci required a new look for their adult learning content to update it with a fresh, dynamic look to complement their channel branding for younger audiences. The work comprised channel idents, bumpers and presentation graphics for a channel which has a footprint in over 100 countries. We worked in all our favourite media to create idents which embodied the panoply of learning subject matter on the channel. We combined stop motion and model making, with mixed media approaches, as well as a diverse range of CG worlds and concepts.

The judges citation said: ‘It has creative use of multiple techniques and disciplines, resulting in varied and imaginative idents which feel unique and pertinent to the subject matter.’

It was fantastic for the work to be recognised by the BAA’s and catch up with friends in the industry. It was also especially poignant as this was among the last industry gathering prior to the Coronavirus lockdown on social distancing.

A great thing about the BAA’s is that all the awards are hand-made pieces of artwork crafted by industry peers, normally themed around – you guessed it – sheep! Our prize was a framed original by Alex Collier, one of the original artists and creators of Viz magazine, one of our long admired favourites!
