2D Animated Explainer For Children’s Digital Rights
Defend Digital Me tasked our team to produce an animated video to raise awareness about their work and its importance in an increasingly digital world. This non-profit organisation seeks to protect children by campaigning for less invasive uses of the data collected throughout their time in education. We set out to create a video that explains in a clear and accessible way how the lack of transparency regarding the way in which personal information is gathered and used infringes upon children’s rights to privacy and consent.
We designed a clean 2D animation style to suit the tone and informative nature of the project. The glowing blue jigsaw pieces, which stand out from the otherwise warm colour palette, represent the various pieces of information being collected, building up to create a blue, ghostly figure. This image of a ‘digital shadow’, that follows the girl beyond school and continues to be present at other key moments in her life, symbolises how data about her has accumulated without her knowledge.
